Back to the Children's Department

This year, we celebrate the 200th anniversairy of Abraham Lincoln's birth!  Here are some good titles to brush up on the 16th president.

We have two new Abraham Lincoln books in the Children's Department that adults will also find interesting.  The first is The Lincolns: A Scrapbook Look at Abraham and Mary by Candace Fleming ($24.99).  The extraordinary lives of Abraham and Mary Lincoln, from their disparate childhoods and their courtship, through the agony of the Civil War, to the loss of three children, and finally to their own tragic deaths is told through a scrapbook history.  It draws on photographs, cartoons, letters and engravings to form a captivating history.              Ages 10 and up

Lincoln Through the Lens : How Photography Revealed and Shaped an Extraordinary Life  by Martin W. Sandler ($19.99) is a favorite of mine.  The photographs provide a portrait of the President and the events that defined him. It is an eye-opening, inspiring visual journey that provides a fresh look at one of the most documented and beloved figures in American history.  It is a truly beautiful book you will visit time after time and will always find something new.            Ages 10 and up
