Please stop by to say hello to one of our favorite children's authors, Dusti Bowling. She will be in the store to meet fans and sign copies of her new book, Aven Green, Baking Machine, as well as her earlier work. Please note that this is not an speaking engagement-- just a chance to chat with the author.
"[Bowling] infuses her writing with humor and empathy." --School Library Journal
About the Book: Aven Green, Baking Machine is the second book in the Aven Green early chapter book series. Now Aven is ready to shake things up by entering the exciting world of competitive baking with her friends Kayla, Sujata, and Emily. Aven knows she's an expert baker. So what if she doesn't have arms? That's just the way she was born. And honestly, she's a whiz at mixing and measuring with her feet. The one skill Aven hasn't mastered in the kitchen: working together with her friends. Before long they are fighting over whose dessert is the best. Will adding friends to the mix turn into a recipe for disaster for Aven?
About the Author: Dusti Bowling grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona, where, as her family will tell you, she always had her nose in a book. Dusti holds a bachelor of psychology and a master of education, but she eventually realized that her true passion was writing. She released her first middle grade novel in 2017 and hasn't stopped writing since. Dusti's books have won the Reading the West Award, the Sakura Medal, a Golden Kite Honor, the William Allen White Children's Book Award, and have been nominated for over thirty state awards. Her books are Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selections and have been named best books of the year by the Chicago Public Library, Kirkus, Bank Street College of Education, A Mighty Girl, Shelf Awareness, and many more.

"Aven is a perky, hilarious, and inspiring protagonist whose attitude and humor will linger even after the last page has turned." --School Library Journal (Starred review)
"High School. Two words that struck fear into the heart of every armless middle schooler I knew. Which was me. And like two people online."
This sequel to the critically acclaimed Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, now in paperback, follows Aven Green as she confronts yet another challenge: high school.
