An Evening with James Carroll

Spend an evening with best-selling novelist James Carroll. Mr. Carroll is the author of twelve novels, most recently The Cloister, which The New York Times called “incandescent,” and eight works of non-fiction, most recently Christ Actually: The Son of God for the Secular Age, which The Boston Globe called, “At once stunningly original and strangely familiar, a testament to the power of a critical, creative faith.”  He is perhaps best known for his nonfiction book Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews--A History which maps the profoundly troubling two-thousand-year course of the Church's battle against Judaism and faces the crisis of faith it has provoked in his own life as a Catholic.

This event is sponsored by Temple Beth Israel and is free and open to the public. RSVP's requested by Feb. 11th at YOAHV@aol.com, or by calling 847-675-0951.

James Carroll was raised in Washington, D.C., and ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 1969. He served as a chaplain at Boston University from 1969 to 1974, then left the priesthood to become a writer. A distinguished scholar-in-residence at Suffolk University, he is a columnist for the Boston Globe and a  regular contributor to the Daily Beast. His critically admired books include Practicing Catholic, the National Book Award-winning An American RequiemHouse of War, which won the first PEN/Galbraith Award, and the New York Times bestseller Constantine's Sword, now an acclaimed documentary.
