About Our Storytellers:
David Bowles is a Mexican-American author from south Texas, where he teaches at the University of Texas Río Grande Valley. He has written several titles, most notably The Smoking Mirror (Pura Belpré Honor Book) and They Call Me Güero (Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award, Claudia Lewis Award for Excellence in Poetry, Pura Belpré Honor Book, Walter Dean Myers Honor Book). His work has also been published in multiple anthologies, plus venues such as The New Your Times, Strange Horizons, Apex Magazine, School Library Journal, Rattle, Translation Review, and the Journal of Children’s Literature. In 2017, David was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters. He is the co-author of The Chupacabras of the Río Grande, the 4th title in the Unicorn Rescue Society series.
Emma Otheguy is the author of the bilingual picture book Martí’s Song for Freedom about Cuban poet and national hero José Martí, as well as the middle-grade novel Silver Meadows Summer, which Pura Belpré-winning author Ruth Behar called “a magnificent contribution to the diversity of the new American literature for young readers.” Martí’s Song for Freedom received five starred reviews, was named a Best Book of the Year by Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, and the New York Public Library, and was the recipient of the International Literacy Association’s 2018 Children’s and Young Adult Book Award in Intermediate Nonfiction. Emma is the co-author of The Madre de Aguas of Cuba, the firth book in the Unicorn Rescue Society series, as well as the forthcoming as A Sled for Gabo, a picture books with Atheneum, due out in January of 2021.

Adam Gidwitz is the author of the critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling Grimm trilogy. He spent six years researching and writing his Newbery Honor-winning The Inquisitor's Tale, including a year living in Europe. He is the creator and co-writer for the Unicorn Rescue Society sereis.
