Chicago Children’s Theatre and The Book Stall invite you to join us at the Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 14th at 5 PM for a very special event with Matt de la Peña and Christian Robinson, the team behind the Newbery Medal and Caldecott Honor-winning best-seller Last Stop on Market Street. Appearing as part of their national tour celebrating the release of their new children’s book, Carmela Full of Wishes, Matt and Christian will give a presentation about their collaboration, followed by a book signing.
A moving ode to family, to dreamers, and to finding hope in the most unexpected places, Carmela is a “powerful and beautiful” (Kirkus, starred review) story about a young Dreamer who spends her birthday helping her brother with their family’s errands for the first time, and searching for the perfect wish. In a starred review, Publishers Weekly says, “The award-winning team behind Last Stop on Market Street portrays Carmela’s Spanish-speaking community as a vibrant place of possibility, and Robinson’s acrylic-and-cutout spreads introduce readers to street vendors, workers in the fields, and sweeping views of the sea. Sensitively conceived and exuberantly executed, Carmela’s story shines.”
The event is free, but space is limited to the first 150 registrants. Once capacity has been reached, we will be keeping a waiting list. Register on the Chicago Children's Theatre website!
You will have the opportunity to pre-purchase the book for pickup at the event in your confirmation email, but we'll have plenty of books available at the event as well.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you!
Can't make it to the event? Call The Book Stall at 847-446-8880 and we will be happy to arrange to get copies of the duo's work autographed for you!
